The health and well-being of the people we serve matters most. We’re here for you.
It began as a vision to create a health plan to serve the local community. Formed by Baystate Medical Center, a group of local physicians, and two other community hospitals, Health New England was incorporated as a health maintenance organization (HMO) in 1985. On January 1, 1986, Health New England began serving members, and to this day continues to be a trusted and valued health plan in our community.
Today, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Baystate Health, Health New England offers a wide range of health care plans in the commercial, Medicaid and Medicare markets.
Health New England’s mission is to improve the health and lives of the people in the communities it serves. Working hard to earn its reputation for care-excellence every day, Health New England provides outstanding service, delivers superior value, and acts as a leading corporate citizen in all our communities.
You’ll find Health New England around every corner in the community. Health New England partners with social service agencies, food pantries, wellness programs, schools and senior centers, helping local organizations raise needed funds, and honoring those who lead the way to improvements and innovations in the course of their work.
In addition, Health New England employees live and work in the communities they serve, and they are deeply committed to and connected with our neighborhoods. Health New England is part of the fabric of our cities and towns.
As a health plan, Health New England serves and employs people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and levels of ability. It aims aim to create an environment of trust and equity, address health disparities, and advance health outcomes for all.
Since the day Health New England was envisioned, it was known to be about the community. To this day, its mission still rings true.
Health New England serves commercial members in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties in Western Massachusetts and Worcester County. We also cover the Medicaid population in and around Holyoke, Northampton, Springfield and Westfield. Health New England's Medicare Advantage coverage extends throughout Western Massachusetts. We also serve commercial members and their dependents who live in Connecticut and are employed by Massachusetts companies.
Our corner of New England is home to some of the most outstanding medical practitioners around. With a network of 23 hospitals and medical centers and nearly 11,000 providers, we make sure we give our members choice and convenience. When members need a particular type of care that requires going outside our expansive roster of medical professionals, we will cover that too.
For employers who choose Health New England but have employees and retirees in other regions, our health plan still covers them—they all have access to our nationwide network of high-quality providers.
We also offer worldwide emergency room coverage for all members.
